Biliana Tzinlikova FARRENC Variations for Piano

“These are small, clean, sharp studies ... as judicious in their execution – in a word: so consummate – that one must come to love them as if they were enveloped in an ever-so-subtle romantic scent...” Thus wrote Robert Schumann of the piano piece Air russe varié by his French contemporary Louise Farrenc in 1836. In doing so, he had put his finger on their essence: the works of Louise Farrenc are perfectly crafted. They are memorable. And above all, her music’s peculiar classicism is couched in the sensitivity – and sometimes, albeit discreetly, the insistence – of early romanticism.

Biliana Tzinlikova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1974. After her piano studies at the State Music Academy in Sofia (Marina Kapazinskaja) she then studied with Andor Losonczy and Christoph Lieske at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, where she graduated with distinction in 2001. She also attended masterclasses with Paul van Ness, Arndzej Jaszinsky, Pierre Amoyal, Pavel Gililov, Menahem Pressler, Alexander Lonquich, Klaus-Christian Schuster, Claude Frank. In particular, Biliana Tzinlikova was influenced by meeting and working with Ruggiero Ricci and Ferenz Rados.

Biliana Tzinlikova, the pianist for the extraordinary, interprets pieces by Louise Farrenc, the genius composer of the 19th century. Precious music from the classical spirit with the romantic feeling and the fine esprit of France. First recordings allow encounters with the great art of entertaining variation, which Madame Farrenc mastered perfectly.
