
Sedef Erçetin Atala was born in Istanbul. She started playing piano at
the age of five in the Municipality Conservatory. After studying at the
Cello Department in the Istanbul State Conservatory, she moved to Paris
and graduated from Ecole Normale Supérieure de Musiqué with special jury
award. She attended the master classes of Geneviève Teuliéres, Raphaël
Sommer, Hugh Mackenzie, Moscow Soloists, and Boris Baraz. During her
stay in Paris, Atala won acclaim with her interpretation of
Bach’s cello suites. Besides classical music, she has played jazz, tango and
improvisations. As a soloist, she performed with Liz Mac Comb for a long
time. Atala also performed with Gerardo Di Giusto’s “Camerata Ambigua”,
and Florin Niculescu’s “Drina Quartet”. Atala has performed with major
European orchestras, and attended many international jazz festivals.
Recently, she performed with Kerem Görsev Trio, and hip hop star Kayne
West. Atala has released the album “Metamorphosis” with pianist Maria
Papapetropoulou.
